Description
Job Summary:The Contact Lens Fitter is responsible for the fitting of all soft and gas permeable contact lenses, ordering and delivery of contact lenses. The Contact Lens Fitter is also responsible for adhering to current departmental polices and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Instruct patient on all aspects of lens wear through verbal and written instructions and hands on ( insertion and removal) practice. Explain contact lens fees, refund policies and lens replacement agreements to patients. Measuring of corneal curvature (using keratometer) and pupil aperture for correct lens specifications. Observe patients eye (using slit lamp) for pathological conditions and refer to ophthalmologist or optometrist for treatment. Select lens material, conduct and evaluate (including use of instilling fluorescein to eye) diagnostic fitting of contact lenses using Slit lamp. Documentation of all findings on Medical record and other charts if needed. Complete all appropriate forms including: Contact lens processing record, Rx cards, Medi-Cal and Medi-Care forms, etc. Make future appointments when necessary. Perform all other duties as required, including clerical as necessary, to ensure proper handling of contact lens patients. As a representative of the organization, display courtesy to all patients, visitors, and employees, through the use of good manners and polite communications.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Three (3) years recent contact lens fitting experience under the direction of a licensed Optician, Optometrist or Ophthalmologist. Knowledge required: Ability to perform preliminary vision tests, obtain patient history information, modify and polish contact lenses, and instruct patients on proper care and use of contact lenses. Ability to use contact lens modification unit, radiuscope, lensometer, slit-lamp biomicroscope, Burton lamp, auto refractor, keratometer, tonometer, and CL diagnostic fitting sets.
Education
- High school diploma OR General Education Diploma (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Contact Lens Dispenser Certificate from National Contact Lens Examiners

- Good problem solving skills/abilities
- This is an On-Call position, days and hours may vary.
- Will involve weekends.
- Contact lens clerk work.
- Prescreening patients for vision examinations.
