Job Summary:
Under supervision assists in the provision of information, maintenance of databases, report production and routine data analysis. Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy and soundness.

Department Description:
KPSOM-s Assessment and Evaluation (A&E) team, part of the Office of Medical Education, leads the design, implementation, and improvement of learning assessment and curricular evaluation for the medical school. The team manages programmatic assessment, supports course-level learner assessments, develops assessment tools. They also oversee curricular evaluation by producing course evaluation data to support curriculum review, CQI processes, faculty teaching evaluation, and administrative oversight of the learning environment. In addition, the team has been developing and maintaining assessment and curricular evaluation dashboards since the school opened in 2020.
The Office of Medical Education (OME) at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine is responsible for ensuring curricular excellence through oversight of curriculum integration, instruction, assessment, and evaluation across the four-year medical education program. In addition, OME manages simulation, educational technology, library services, faculty development, accreditation, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives related to the curriculum.
Project Description:
The intern will allocate their time equally between assessment and evaluation projects.
For assessment, potential projects include:
- Developing a heat map, a visual tool that illustrates how frequently key skills are assessed across courses throughout the academic year. This involves reviewing and organizing course materials into the heat map format to enable efficient verification of assessment data for completeness and balance, as well as identification of areas requiring further attention.
- Support annual student promotion by reviewing student performance data for completeness and proper integration into the performance dashboard prior to faculty review; conducting quality checks on both quantitative and qualitative data; preparing materials for faculty to facilitate the review process; and generating committee summary reports outlining the review procedure, member decisions, and justifications regarding student outcomes.
For curricular evaluation, potential projects include:
- Conducting course evaluations for one or two courses including revising survey items in the online survey platform (Qualtrics), monitoring student completion rates, and developing summary reports within Qualtrics.
- Preparing data for trend analysis on assigned course evaluation and graduating student survey data administered in the last three years or so from quantitative and qualitative sources using Qualtrics and Co-Pilot.
In addition, the intern will support the Assessment and Evaluation team in compiling assessment and course evaluation data, as necessary, to support the annual curricular review.
Desired Skillsets:
- Proficient in Excel or Google Sheets (sorting, filtering, basic formulas)
- Strong attention to detail; able to follow instructions
- Skilled at reviewing documents and extracting information
- Basic knowledge of survey design, data management and descriptive statistics (frequencies, mean, median, standard deviation) a plus
- Familiarity with online survey tools, project management (Asana), and/or AI platforms (e.g., Co-Pilot, Chat GPT) a plus

- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.

The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not include the value of our total rewards package.
