Position Summary
The Nurse Extern, is currently enrolled and in good standing in an RN School of Nursing and has successfully completed a Nursing fundamentals course. The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern's skills/training. The Nurse Extern can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved and knowledge has been acquired from the school curriculum and/or hospital training. When working with an RN 1:1, usually during the final practicum of nursing school and until licensure, the nurse extern may be preceptored by an RN and perform aspects of patient care as deemed competent to perform with continued supervision of a registered nurse. The Nurse Extern is expected to convert to an RN position within 4 months or less of the graduation date. After this period, if the Nurse Extern cannot move to an RN role, they will be required to transfer to an alternate position and cannot continue in the Nurse Extern role.
Education:
- Enrolled and in good standing at a school of Nursing.
- Successful completion of a nursing fundamentals class.
Experience:
- Prior clinical experience in area of expertise preferred
License:
- None
Certifications:
- BLS/CPR (AMERICAN HEART ASSN)
- CPI due at the end of the month within your 90 days in the position.
