Job Summary
Responsible for the timely and efficient performance of selected duties as directed by and under the general supervision of the Orthopedic physician. Applies and removes casts, splints, and braces; assists physicians with procedures like wound care/suture removal; prepares patients for clinics; and instructs them on device use, working in hospitals/clinics to support musculoskeletal care, handling patient flow, documentation, and maintaining equipment for broken bones or injuries. Works with pediatric through geriatric patients and completes established competencies for the position within the introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Casting & Splinting: Applying, adjusting, removing, and mending casts, splints, braces, and slings.
- Patient Care: Working closely with physician, and clinical staff, rooming patients, taking histories/recording patient information, dressing changes, removing sutures/staples, and assisting with minor procedures.
- Patient Education: Instructing patients on cast/brace care, exercises, and crutch use.
- Clinic/Room Management: Preparing treatment rooms and ensures the area and equipment is prepared for treatment.
- Supplies: maintains supplies, cleans treatment areas appropriately. and performs regular autoclave cleaning following patient care.
- Musculoskeletal Knowledge: Understanding orthopedic procedures, terminology, and anatomy.
- Hands-On Skills: Proficiency with casting materials, tools, and equipment.
- Communication: Strong communication, courteous, effective interaction with diverse patients and staff.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in documentation of patient care.
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Associate degree
Experience
Preferred: Casting experience and 6 months in healthcare setting
Certifications
Required: AHA BLS
Preferred: Ortho Tech Certified
