Description:Job Summary:
A residency in managed care pharmacy is defined as an organized, directed, post graduate training program that centers on development of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to pursue rational drug therapy and assume leadership roles in the majority of the following managed care settings( e.g. Staff/group model; independent practice associated model (IPA); pharmacy benefit management company (PBM); business coalitions formed to address health care utilization; managed pharmacy services; and multi-specialty physician practices).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Participate in the components of disease management: identification of need, development, implementation and assessment of treatment guidelines/protocol related to individual and population-based patient care.
- Contribute to the development of a new product or service (e.g. A health management or disease state management program) or to the enhancement for an existing product or service. Contribute to the design or pharmacy benefits that achieve the clients/customers financial and therapeutic objectives.
- Design, recommend, monitor, and evaluate patient specific pharmacotherapy commensurate with the needs of the patient and the scope of responsibilities of the managed health care system. A: as appropriate, establish a collaborative professional; pharmacist/patient relation; B: build the information base needed to design a medication therapy regimen; C: design pharmacotherapeutic regimens; D: design monitoring plans for pharmacotherapeutic regimens; E: as appropriate, recommend pharmacotherapeutic regimens and corresponding monitoring plans; F: implement the pharmacotherapeutic regimen and/or corresponding monitoring plan; G: redesign pharmacotherapeutic regimens and corresponding monitoring plans based on evaluation of monitoring data and therapeutic outcomes.
- Provide concise, applicable and timely response to requests for drug information from health care providers and patients.
- Participate in clinical, humanistic and economic outcomes analysis.

Education
- Candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) OR
- Have a degree in pharmacy meeting minimum educational requirements for pharmacist licensure in Washington OR
- Have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Associations of Board of Pharmacy (NABP).
License, Certification, Registration
- Pharmacy Intern License (Washington) required at hire OR Pharmacist License (Washington) within 4 months of hire
Additional Requirements:
- Resident must be a licensed Washington pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will be dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
- Residents making application to the residency program must participate in and adhere to the rules of the Residency Matching Program (RPM) process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in manage care, either via internship, externship or work experience.
- Licensed as a pharmacist in Washington State by hire/transfer.
- Doctorate of pharmacy.
