Description
Job Summary:In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is also responsible for supervising and coaching staff to provide respiratory care services; serving as subject matter expert to determine and oversee delivery of respiratory equipment needs for patients; contributing to the development, planning, and implementation of respiratory care goals and objectives and pulmonary standards; and planning and directing respiratory care daily operations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Recommends developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross-functional relationships. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; provides team members with feedback; and mentors and coaches to drive performance improvement. Pursues professional growth; provides training and development to talent for growth opportunities; supports execution of performance management guidelines and expectations. Implements, adapts, and stays up to date with organizational change, challenges, feedback, best practices and processes. Fosters open dialogue, supports, mentors, engages, and motivates team members on collaboration. Delegates tasks and decisions as appropriate; provides appropriate support, guidance and scope.
- Supervises and coordinates daily activities of designated work team or unit by monitoring the execution and completion of tactical action items and work assignments; ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Aligns team efforts and standards, and measures progress in achieving results; determines and carries out processes and methodologies; resolves escalated issues as appropriate. Develops work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; coordinates, obtains and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and recommends improvement opportunities; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise by: implementing and/or coaching local rehabilitation teams to implement latest research and industry developments to improve workflow efficiencies and patient outcomes; supervising the implementation of and adherence to evidence-based practice standards across team members, and monitoring and evaluating related outcomes and providing training to ensure adherence to evidence-based and medically necessary standards; providing training and ensuring that teams have the necessary resources, training, and support to effectively provide care and educate others (e.g., members, families, caregivers, the heath care team) on industry developments and evidence-based best practices; and promoting appropriate and approved educational and clinical development opportunities (e.g., quality improvement activities, continuing education courses, staff training) to maintain and enhance team members competencies in professional practice.
- Leads teams in maintaining a safe and compliant care practice by: supervising local rehabilitation teams to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, training to promote adherence to internal and external policies and procedures; developing reports for administrative and regulatory purposes and disseminating insights from reports to the team; proactively identifying and ensuring teams comply with safety protocols to mitigate risks to patient, staff, and member safety; implementing safety-related policies and procedures and supervising teams within the department to report safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions, providing guidance on corrective actions and/or process improvements to avoid future incidents; and accountable for training and ensuring that teams maintain confidentiality of all patient, staff, and member records and information.
- Leads efficient and effective operations management by: managing allocation of resources (e.g., personnel, equipment) within the department, identifying opportunities to streamline operations and maximize cost savings; leading processes of stocking shelves, taking inventory, ordering supplies, and cleaning equipment; analyzing performance metrics to assess effectiveness of department services, supporting the implementation of data-driven solutions to enhance service delivery (e.g., quality, efficiencies, cost); and contributing to strategic planning, staffing, budget, and performance discussions for the department.
- Leads patient care practices by: conducting and/or overseeing teams to conduct comprehensive assessments of patient condition and needs; developing, and/or coordinating and monitoring the development and implementation of patient care plans for a local rehabilitation team, proactively identifying and addressing patient needs, goals, and preferences; leveraging advanced knowledge of patient safety and care practices to support and/or manage the provision of care for a local rehabilitation team and ensure safe administration of medications, procedures, and/or infection control; applying standardized criteria and guiding teams to determine medical necessity and need for continued care based on rate of progress; training and overseeing team members to advocate for patient needs and continuously assess treatment efficacy; mentoring team members to evaluate response to treatment, identify changes in patient condition, and develop modifications to care plans as needed; and overseeing discharge processes for a local rehabilitation team when patients have reached established goals or received maximum treatment benefits.
- Leads service quality improvement initiatives by: managing staff and projects within the department to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of therapy services and coordination of care services; assisting with the resolution of service/care issues, unusual occurrences (UOs), and patient complaints/grievances; supporting local rehabilitation team members to identify and implement process improvements to increase access, improve efficiency, and promote quality outcomes of therapy services; collaborating within the team and with leaders across teams to enhance care coordination, service delivery, and patient experience; and contributing to the development of new products and services that align with company goals, member needs, and emerging evidence and trends in health care, ensuring implementation of new products/services by local rehabilitation team members.
- Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy AND minimum five (5) years of experience in health care, customer service, business or a directly related field, with two (2) of those years being in respiratory therapy
- Minimum six (6) years of experience in respiratory therapy or a directly related field.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner License (California) required at hire
- Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate required at hire
- Basic Life Support required at hire

Pay Range: $173000 - $200200 / year Kaiser Permanente is committed to pay equity and transparency.
