Growing together.Optum is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join our growing team. At Optum, we are transforming healthcare nationally while providing physician-led care locally.
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 AM- 5:00 PM or until last patient leaves. Friday 7:45 am to 12:00 pm or until last patient leaves. Schedule may change due to business needs. May be asked to float to other locations for coverage, as needed.
Location: 1124 Little Street, Camden, SC 29020
Primary Responsibilities:
- Greet and check in patients
- Verifies patient demographics and insurance information
- Collects outstanding balances, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances
- Checks patients out and schedules future appointments
- File, Fax and maintain medical records
- Ability to maintain a work queue list- complete any pending actions ie referrals, scheduling appointments
- Performs general clerical duties
- Meets the communication needs of the patient/ family, practice providers, and practice staff
- Participate in performance improvement activities
- Greet patients in a professional and courteous manner
- Directs patients to appropriate areas
- Check-in' all patients, gives patient medical forms to complete and update if needed
- Collecting payments, printing receipts, and posting payments
- Scanning and filing patients' information if needed
- Reconciles cash drawer daily and send deposit to Department manager
- Follow the Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
- Retrieve and sort mail into appropriate boxes
- Sorts and documents any returned mail
- Maintains a good working relationship with practice staff members
- Performs all other duties assigned
- Meets dress code standards: appearance is neat and clean
- Completes annual/ monthly education requirements
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled
- Completes work in a timely manner
- Attend staff meetings
- Ensures patient confidentiality
- Complies with all practice policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ year of customer service or healthcare related experience
- 1+ year of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
- Knowledge of EMR ( ECW)
- Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
