Description
Job Summary:Under direct supervision, performs arrhythmia or ECG monitor observations on assigned shift and communicates changes to the nursing staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
- 1. Obtain, compile, prepare and maintain records for the nursing unit assigned.
- 2. Observe cardiac rhythm of patients on monitor.
- 3. Run and post rhythm strips at designated intervals.
- 4. Assists in initiating code blues.
- 5. Interpret rhythms and validate computer readout.
- 6. Collaborates with RN to verify lead placement on patients.
- 7. Compare posted strip to previous strip and notify nursing staff of changes. Notify nursing staff of any changes in cardiac rhythm.
- 8. Place patient identification sticker on monitor.
- 9. Recognize and respond to unusual or abnormal patient conditions.
- 10. Clean equipment after each patient use. Equipment includes cardiac (ECG) monitor, telemetry transmitter (delivered by PCA,) central monitor bank and arrhythmia analysis/printer.
- 10. Test equipment for proper working order, ensure that equipment is in good working condition. Report equipment problems to supervisor.
- 11. Maintain work area clean and orderly.
- 12. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
- 13. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanentes Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable,) and Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures.
- 14. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles as defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission and specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.
- Successful completion of arrhythmia update within the last two years if basic arrhythmia class taken over two years ago. Successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente basic arrhythmia assessment test with a score of 80% or better. Adequate hearing, either alone or with a hearing device. Previous monitor observer experience preferred. Ability to organize, and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work as a team member.
