Description
Job Summary:- With more than 220,000 employees and 35 labor unions representing over 160,000 employees in eight states and the District of Columbia, Kaiser Permanente is among the largest and most complex organized workplaces in the United States.
- The Vice President, Labor Law and Employee Benefits, will be responsible for development and implementation of legal advice on labor strategy, compliance, disputes, and conflict resolution, and legal oversight and support of the employee benefits function.
- TheVice President, Labor Law and Employee Benefits, will report to the Senior Vice President, Labor and Employment Advice and Litigation. This role will manage a team of attorneys who provide subject matter expertise on traditional labor law and employee benefits in the many jurisdictions where Kaiser Permanente does business.
- Build a high-performance team
- Build and lead a high-performance team of labor law and employee benefits specialists.
- Enable long-term development of lawyers and potentially other legal professionals, creating a talent pool for the next generation of diverse legal department leadership.
- Build and expand on the subject matter expertise of the team by modeling, promoting, and supporting cross-training, mentoring, and skills development.
- Manage the labor and employee benefits law practice group
- Supervise the Labor Law and Employee Benefits team
- Lead teams of attorneys and labor relations clients on high impact projects and matters
- Lead litigation strategy for labor arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, and civil actions
- Manage high risk and advice work by Market as appropriate
- Manage budget for labor arbitrations and other dispute matters
- Develop and implement strategic vision for the labor practice group
- Develop, implement, and communicate a strategic vision for the delivery of labor and employee benefits advice that is integrated with Kaiser Permanente-s overarching strategic business and labor relations direction.
- Implement strategies by Market to promote sustainable relations with KP unions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor
- Serve as strategic thought partner to the Senior Vice President, Labor and Employment Law, on labor strategy and implementation, labor disputes, and other complex labor law matters
- Serve as labor law and strategy advisor to senior leadership
- Serve as advisor and thought partner on employee benefits matters
Experience
- Fifteen (15) or more years of experience including significant experience advising senior executives on highly complex matters and representing employers in a wide range of traditional labor law matters.

- Juris doctorate

- Experience advising senior leaders on highly complex matters.
- Experience managing complex projects or programs
- Experience advising in highly matrixed organizations
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in federal labor law, including labor management partnerships, collective bargaining, strikes, labor arbitration, and NLRB practice
- Excellent strategic thinking and legal judgment
- Strong analytical skills with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Superior legal writing
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, including ability to build and sustain strong internal and external relationships.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, particularly to a senior leadership audience.
- Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a constantly changing, face-paced environment.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential and/or sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Seven (7) years direct or indirect experience leading/managing complex teams, with documented leadership success in driving outcomes that have material value to the organization, preferred.

Pay Range: $370000 - $465000 / year Kaiser Permanente is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not include the value of our total rewards package. Actual pay determined at offer will be based on years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills and geographic location along with a review of current employees in similar roles to ensure that pay equity is achieved and maintained across Kaiser Permanente.
